East Meets West

Another weekend comes to a close... unfortunately. With summer already just about half way over, I have really been trying to enjoy every bit there is left of it. At the very least, the anticipation of the end of summer is getting me out of bed a little earlier than usual.

As casual as I like to be on the weekend, I'm always well aware that the one time I decide to dress down is that one time I'll run into someone I know. My solution: Topo Ranch - the California based brand that brings West Coast casual vibes every New Yorker needs after a long work week in the city. These Tri Topo Shorts are my go-to during my Sunday errands... and sometimes Monday office-wear. Comfort and style at its' best.

Summer Whites

It'll be Labor Day before we know it so there's no better time to get some your all white looks out of the way - does anyone really still pay attention to the "no white after Labor Day" rule?! Anyways, these Japanese Selvedge Jeans from J. Crew are still in the beginning stages of breaking so I have no choice but to wear them straight through Labor Day to get them just right... least that'll be the excuse I'll be using.

I'm going to break these guys in over the next couple months to show just how buying some selvedge denim can be worth the sometimes steep price. Make sure to check back to see the stages of the process and how these J. Crew Selvedge Denim Jeans break down into the perfect pair. Make sure to comment if you have any tricks of the trade to speed up the process!

Less Effort, More Style

If you've been a regular of Trend Styled this summer then you've seen some of our styling put to work in our Style Files featuring the guys of many model agencies based here in NYC. So when AXE contacted us to try out their latest premium collection - AXE Matte Effect Platinum Series - we thought what better way to test out the line than to put the product to work in the elements of the latest Style Files shoots. It was much easier than expected... and not only because of their already flawless heads of hair. With just a couple of steps, we were able to get photo-shoot ready without the big production.

The results... well you be the judge.

Denim Days

There's somehow already a chill in the air here in New York City this week, so I've spent the majority of the week doing some much needed summer closet purging. As much as it's needed, I can't help but hang onto some of my favorites that I know I'll use all year round. On that short summer list - my collection of Soludos, my Topo Ranch tanks, and a new discovery I made this summer, these Boga Jack fit jeans. I tend to stay away with investing in denim during the summer but these guys have just enough stretch and softness that they are super comfortable no matter how high the temperatures hit.

LOTW: Fall Preparations

As much as we all want to hold onto summer as long as possible, there's just nothing more comfortable than a new fall wardrobe! This week's Look of the Week is inspired by those early days of fall that will be creeping up before you know it. Heavier button-ups, lightweight sweaters, darker denim, and some kick ass, masculine accessories is what I'm most excited about. What are you shopping for this fall?

Thankfully, with the help of online men's retailer East Dane, upgrading your style just in time for the changing season is a whole lot easier. This one stop shop has just about anything you need to get you prepped for fall... just like all of this seen here. Click through below to shop the look!

Isaora Mesh Tank | ASOS Trousers and Boots
You don't have to be in a full suit and brogues to have style these days. My personal style, for myself and in my work, is all about balance between athletic-wear and tailored pieces. Being able to mix such polar opposites seems a whole lot more interesting to me than just buying a suit and pairing it was a dress shirt... what's the fun in that?!

This weeks' Style Files brings you long time model, James Guardino [Soul Artist Management]. With such a rugged look, I wanted to find the balance in his style with a little of my own style inspiration. Isaora [tank and shirt seen here] is a big favorite for me this summer. The elevated sports-wear brings a cool sense of style without losing the reliability of performance. Make sure to check out the full editorial at our Tumblr page HERE.

With new seasons comes new trends. I'm really feeling bomber jackets this fall and know I'll be sporting this Alpha Industries jacket all through the season. There's nothing new about the style but the military heritage inspiration that Alpha Industries produces will have you set for most seasons. Light enough for spring and the perfect mix of colors layered for fall, invest in one of these guys and you'll find any reason to wear it.

And another work-week comes to a close. I don't know about you guys, but even with summer quickly coming to a close, Fridays can't come soon enough! This weekend I'll be doing a little traveling to the very exotic... Cleveland, Ohio. I'm actually super excited about the trip - having never been to Ohio, I'm always excited of the unknown. If any of you have suggestions on where to go, don't hesitate to reach out!

A true sign of happiness is the realization that time is slipping through your fingers. With a constant sense of urgency in New York City, sometimes you have to remind yourself to calm down, dress down, and just sit down and appreciate everything that's going on around you and in your life.

As many of you read this it may be that you have found me from the big news that broke over the weekend and into the week. The overwhelming support we have experienced over this past couple days has been amazing and we can not be more thankful for all the kindness that has come our way. I have nothing else to say except, thank you! Thank you all for the words, the smiles as we walked by, and, of course, the endless "boyfriend twin" jokes and Instagram "swoon" recaps.

LOTW: Back in Black

It's that time of year again... for so many people [excluding me, thankfully!] it's time for that back to school prep! This week's Look of the Week is inspired by that idea that so many have as they enter another year of school in hopes of a major style upgrade. As much as some might dread starting another year of school, I always saw it as another chance at a fresh new start of who I wanted to be for the year. Forget New Years resolutions... for me it was all about new school year resolutions. Good luck to all of those heading back!!

#AEO Style Challenge

Weekends are all about relaxing... and there's just nothing more laid back than a loose pair of denim and a great tee! Not one to stray too far from my go-to skinny denim, I was hesitant when AEO reached out and challenged me to wear-test the newest from their denim line - the Loose Jean. Turns out... it was the perfect fit for my relaxing weekend traveling to Cleveland, OH. Paired with a white graphic tee and some canvas kicks and I was set to comfortably trek the "Rock and Roll Capital of the World". How cool is this mural btw?!

Current Obsessions

There are some things I discover, mostly by way of readers, that I instantly become obsessed with and can't help but constantly share with all of you. It's probably my favorite thing about blogging... getting to discover, rediscover, and share along the way is awesome, so I'm going to make it my mid-year resolution [What?! That's a thing right?] to do it more often with all of you. My current list is short but sweet... check it and share it!

1. Westward Leaning Shades - Our collection is endless!
2. Spike - NYC apartments are tight... we thought a pet cactus would be best
[who wished to keep his identity a secret apparently]
3. LACOSTE L!ve Cologne - My go to scent for fall and most likely the rest of year
I rotate my scents by season but LACOSTE L!ve is so versatile I'll be rockin' this scent all year!
4. Jack Black Lip Balm - Don't skimp on your lip game. SPF goes a long way.
5. Kiel James Patrick Bracelets - Just try collecting them all.
6. Equinox Membership - If you have to be stuck in a gym, it might as well feel like a spa!

Summer Nights

I don't know about you guys, but I'm all about summer nights. Nothing beats the mood of millions of New Yorkers exiting their offices off to spots around the city but all with an instant breath of relief... relief that they're out of their cubicles and free to do as they please!

With these nights quickly coming to a close, we're taking full advantage of tonight and hitting up some parties around the city. Our go-to fiesta style... tuxedo jackets! The details that make up a tuxedo jacket are just enough to upgrade your style without going full suit force. Throw on some dark denim and some cool brogues and you're set.

Sun Soaked

Some Mondays just don't suck! There are days like today that we have to pinch ourselves to make sure we're not dreaming. We took a short flight over to D.C. to test drive some of what's to come from Volkswagen [more to come about this later] and managed to get in some down time to tour the grounds of the beautiful Salamander Resort and Spa. If you're ever in the Washington D.C. area take the scenic route out to this resort. You, like us, won't ever want to leave!

And just when we thought summer was quickly coming to a close, we got a day like today. Even though this was a short trip, we're always prepared for any climate and our Lost tanks definitely came in handy to soak up some sun. Tie-dye obsessed, this tank has been in our weekly rotation since we got it. Make sure to check out their full summer collection... and very soon, what they have launching for fall!

Uniqlo Though

You might find it hard to believe, but I'm really not too much of a shopper. The idea of trolling the racks of super busy stores, especially here in NYC, isn't exactly time well spent when I have a free day. Online has always been the way to go for me and there's not one day that goes by that you won't find me browsing some of my favorites like Mr. Porter and East Dane. Uniqlo though... now this store is easily worth some of the chaos.

Guilty of dropping some serious money on my denim, I used to pride myself on finding the best jeans out there and never hesitated spending whatever it might cost. That is until I discovered Uniqlo's Tapered Skinny Jean. Made from Japanese denim, Uniqlo's extensive jean line has fit for every guy but all made with the same quality that will last much longer than you think. Especially for the price you'll pay after trying some on for yourself... less than $50! Note: this is NOT a sponsored post... I love and live in these jeans and know you will too.

Labor Day

Even though summer isn't officially over until late September, Labor Day Weekend is always celebrated as that last weekend to travel to the beach, have a backyard BBQ, or just kick up your feet and do absolutely nothing. For me, it has definitely been the later.

With New York Fashion Week looming, I always use this weekend to just relax and stay around the deserted city catching up on some guilty pleasures like staying in bed all day watching some pretty bad reality television. I'll keep this one short... I hear the Kardashians calling. Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Pre-NYFW

Keeping it casual while on some pre- New York Fashion Week errands on this muggy city day. As much as we celebrated all weekend anticipating the end of summer, Mother Nature proved us all wrong with one last blast of heat here in NYC. I never thought I would be saying this, especially being a Texas boy at heart, but I can not wait for winter!

Ok, ok not really... but a little breeze would be nice! Especially when I'll have to be suiting up for another busy fashion week. As much as I love to dress down [especially with a cap like this one from Katin USA], this is the time of year we all suck it up and suit up as we watch as designers show their best of what's to come next year. Make sure to follow along on my social [links below] to see all the shows, some behind the scenes pre-shows, and some insane post-show parties!

Broguing

This week has been a little crazy running around the city, racing to Fashion Week shows and presentations by some of my favorite brands and designers. I can never help but feel completely inspired by just being in a room filled with so many influential people in the fashion industry and only helps to push me to put a little more effort in my every day dressing.

Thankfully, the good people at Frank Wright reached out again to introduce me to some of their latest fall shoe styles. I was first introduced to the UK shoe brand earlier this year and have been wearing their kicks ever since. I love the lightweight feel of most of their collection but most importantly their modern, heritage influenced style that will instantly upgrade any look. These Bude Tobacco Suede Brogues were the perfect addition to my NYFW outfits. Make sure you stay tuned for more from one of my favorite new shoe brands - Frank Wright Shoes.

Wrist Wear

With a growing collection of watches, I love timepieces that are not only unique and aesthetically stylish but most importantly durable enough to invest in knowing it will be a lifetime purchase. Obviously, aesthetics comes first with an eye always on style, but lately I've really been dedicating myself to investing in pieces to incorporate into my daily looks that will not only be in style but will also be carried with me for many years to come.

Last week I had the pleasure of celebratingthe launch ofI.N.O.X [French for 'stainless steel'], the latest to debut from the Swiss brand Victorinox, and 130 years since the brands inception. The brand introduced the I.N.O.X proving the durability with a campaign video where a 64 ton tank rolled straight over the timepiece and live testing stations including sandblasting, boiling in water over a burner, and even rolling over the piece with a FDNY fire truck. Made with a solid steel body and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal anti-reflect face, the I.N.O.Xconfirmed its' presence as not only being one of a kind, sleek, and stylish but also durable and worth what the piece costs - which, with the meticulous craftsmanship Victorinoxis known for, could easily be more. This guy will be on my wrist for many years to come. Now excuse me while I wait for the next fire truck to roll by!
