Nothing beats a Summer Friday... and for those of you who don't know of or get to experience these, I'm sorry! While you're still counting down the hours before the weekend officially starts, I'm already en route to the nearest beach after leaving the office at around noonish! There just isn't anything better. I'll keep this short and sweet and just say - Happy Friday friends! P.S. How sick is this jacket from Coach?!

Looking to give your face a moisture boost? Try a face oil! PLANT, which was introduced to me by the team at Birchbox Man, is a Brooklyn based design studio with a wide range of products - everything from spice kits and cheese boards to some pretty uniquely packaged grooming goods. The husband and wife team behind the brand created the shop with a passion for design and eco-friendly standards which resulted in a line of 100% botanical blend face oils [among other cool products] that will leave your face feeling hydrated and ultra soft!

For me, I love to use the stuff in the evening after a warm shower. Instead of my moisturizing lotion, I apply about 3-4 drops of the vile into the palm of my hand and evenly spread the serum over my face focusing on my t-zone [area around the forehead, nose, and chin]. The result - a smoother-softer-brighter complexion. Happy grooming fellas!

It is officially, full-on, beach mode... which only means one thing for me - my shade collection will soon be able to supply a small country! I can't help but collect the goods knowing that there are endless shapes, colors, and brands to match every occasion and you just can't be caught without the perfect pair on those sunny days!

Having trouble finding a pair that fits your face? Head on over to DITTO, my current online obsession and shop that houses endless amounts of designer shades. The highlight - virtual try on that will have you fitted in the convenience of your own space and privacy. Simply follow the few steps to snap an image of your face with your webcam and let DITTO do the rest as you browse through the vast inventory.

If you're still having some trouble deciding, follow these guidelines to match the shape of your face with the perfect pair from DITTO:
Go for a more round frame avoiding rectangular shapes that will only accentuate the shape of your forehead - I mean, unless you're going for that Frankenstein look! The shades from Illesteva are my latest investment and will be traveling with me all summer!
If you have a narrower jaw line, pick some shades that accentuate your cheek bones like these Ray-Ban Aviators - instant badass appeal!
Ok so if you have a more oval shape to your face, also known as super-proportional, we can not be friends! You are not only naturally good looking, but you can wear almost any shape of shades there is to offer - go for these Persol Foldable Suprema sunglasses for some easy storage... as if your life isn't already easy enough!
If you have a rounder face, add a little dimension to your head with more geometric specs. Go for square and rectangular frames like these Retro Super Future shades that will give you a more chiseled, defined bone structure to your face.

My summer weekend needs are pretty simple - my bike, my iced coffee, and my secret park spots. There's nothing like escaping the city within the city and enjoying time off the grid - the resulting tan is just a bonus. Extra points if you can name my [not so] secret park spot pictured here.

Want my summer garb secret? I throw all my money into my swim gear - a well made swimsuit is much cooler than your basic chino shorts. My one stop short shop - Orlebar Brown. Go solid for a safer daily look or, if you're feeling adventurous, go bold in one of the brands infamous patterns

There's just nothing like rediscovering your old closet investments. For me, I tend to shop and invest in pieces that I tell myself I'll wear all the time... only to hang it in my closet and completely forget I ever bought. After some much needed post-spring closet cleaning, I came across these Todd Snyder Olive Infantry Cargos - now known as my new favorite pants! It's all in the details with these guys. If you look closely, you can catch the subtle herringbone weave pattern that make them that much more unique. Now if only I could rediscover how to keep this closet organized. Happy cleaning friends!

I love modern mixes of athletic and dapper and when I dress for my day - no matter the occasion - I have some type of athletic-wear contributing to the days look. A couple weeks ago I got to work with photographer Erik Carter styling a shoot featuring model Josh Truesdell [Soul Artist Management] where I used my own daily style as inspiration for the day. Great structured pieces like tuxedo jackets [ASOS] and full spring suiting [J. Crew Traveler] were the foundation that tailored the looks while sneakers [ASOS] and a down-vest [L.L. Bean Signature] brought out the athletics.

#WheredSaulGo: Seattle, Washington Part One

I can't be more excited to start my #WheredSaulGo series with none other than the Emerald City - Seattle, Washington! I don't know what it was that has always pulled my curiosity towards Seattle but the instant stress relief of touching down among the rolling green hills was reason enough to take the long flight from New York.

Of course, as soon as we made our way into the city, we trekked straight to the closest coffee shop. Seattle may be home to the very first Starbucks, but I just couldn't bare to miss out on some local spots - be sure to hit up Storyville's Pike Place location for a strong cup, tasty sweets, and some damn good looking baristas! Seattle's famous Pike Place Market is just steps from the coffee shop so after you recharge, stroll through for a combination of primarily fish, farmers, and flower market - you'll be surprised which wins in taking over the scent. Day one ended on top of the symbol of Seattle - the Space Needle - with complete 360 degree views of the entire city which was just the most obvious way to end the beginning of the trip! Check back later in the week for #WheredSaulGo part two.

Check out our new Tumblr page HERE for all the extra images not uploaded here!
*Big thank you to Out and Equal Seattle and Alaska Airlines for such an amazing experience!*

Day two of my visit to Seattle was predictable... not only was the city rainy and, for the most part, pretty gloomy but the path we mapped out for our day was that of a typical Seattle tourist. First up on the schedule was visiting the world's first Starbucks - well walking by it. The line was pretty intense but we stopped by for a quick photo and some local tunes. Since we were back in the Pike Place Market area we strolled through again to take in the never-ending booths of fresh morning flowers. If you live in this city, you have no excuse but to be surrounded by flowers at all times! The rest of the trip was pretty relaxed just enjoying the smaller nooks of the city including appreciating its' unique architecture, finding some damn good seafood, and taking in the views from it's rolling city hills. I will definitely be back soon... until next time Seattle!

For New Yorkers, summer weekends are all about escaping the city to one of the endless amounts of outdoor surroundings there are to see. Just a couple hours in each direction out of the city you will stumble upon some pretty amazing outdoor activities... everything from beaches to mountain hiking to some beautiful lakes and rivers. Last weekend we decided to take full advantage of the sunny weather and skip town to head East to Long Island for some beach-side sunbathing and tastings of some local wineries this long stretch of island is so known for. Thankfully, Ford hooked us up with our very own Ford Fusion SE to make the trip a little easier. Make sure you check back later in the week to see my all the details from my Ford Road Trip!

*Big thank you to our friends at Ford for hooking us up with a great ride!*

The Expert Shave

I always feel like summer is the harshest on my skin so I really push myself to find the right products that collaborate well with the extreme heat and pollution NYC dishes out during the season. When Dove contacted me about their line of shaving regimen that is groomed exclusively for men I knew I had to try it out. Even for someone as myself who doesn't shave as often as most, I know that the times I do shave, I have to make it count. We spend so much money on razors and ignore the fact that the entire regimen of shaving is important from beginning to end. Dove Men+Care's Expert Shave regimen takes men through every important step of the grooming process - which really just makes taking care of our skin that much easier. It's a no brainer!

I also had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Jeff Benabio, the San Diego based dermatologist who collaborated with Dove Men+Care to help develop the new product line, who helped answer some of my [and maybe some of your] grooming questions when it comes to the Expert Shave and just how to use the entire range:

TS: What are some key elements that makes this product regimen different than others?
Dr. Benabio: The Expert Shave range is clinically proven to better moisturize and hydrate skin for the ultimate caring shave. This range was created to focus specifically on the act of shaving and the common skin care concerns that come with it, including irritation, dryness and roughness. It features products that deliver superior levels of moisturization to prepare, shave and repair the skin, before, during and following shaving.

TS: Which is your favorite part of the regimen
Dr. Benabio: I love the Total Comfort Shave Cream, which is designed for drier and irritation-prone skin types, like mine, that require enhanced protection and moisturization. It also comes in a tub, which I like, and sometimes I use a brush to apply it. The shave cream preps my skin for a smooth, clean shave and contains increased levels of glycerin to help protect dry and sensitive skin types from irritation.

TS: What are the proper techniques when shaving? Post shower vs. pre shower. With the grain vs. against the grain. Electric trimmer vs. razor.
Dr. Benabio: The proper shave involves a three step approach. The first step is the “pre-shave” because preparation is an important step most guys don’t think about. The Dove Men+Care Expert Shave “pre-shave” products cleanse and soften men’s skin and stubble to prepare for a smooth shave. First, apply the Exfoliating Pre-Shave Scrub as it cleans and scrubs skin for a closer shave, and lifts hairs to help reduce ingrown hairs. Next, apply the Softening Pre-Shave Oil, specially formulated to soften hair and moisturize your skin to help protect skin while shaving. The second step is “the shave” and using the right shaving products can make all the difference. The Dove Men+Care Expert Shave line includes two shave creams that contain high levels of moisturizing ingredients to help protect skin during shaving, the Smoothing Shave Cream and the Total Comfort Shave Cream. The Smoothing Shave Cream’s creamy lather helps protect against irritation and leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated. The Total Comfort Shave Cream is the richest, most protective Dove Men+Care shave formula designed especially for drier skin. It softens hair on contact and provides smooth razor glide.  The third and final step is the “post-shave” because even the best shave can be tough on your face. The Dove Men+Care Expert Shave Intense Post-Shave Balm helps rehydrate and soothe skin quickly to help relieve shaving irritation and is clinically proven to help skin repair after shaving.

For the best results, I advise my patients to shave post-shower.  The moisture and steam from the shower will help soften your hair for a smoother and closer shave. Additionally, it is best to shave with the grain versus against the grain. While most men like to shave against the grain for a closer shave, this can trap the hairs under the skin and cause ingrown hairs.

TS: How can men combat ingrown facial hair?
Dr. Benabio: In my experience, there are two sure-fire ways to avoid ingrown hairs. First, you must exfoliate, and that’s why I recommend the Exfoliating Pre-Shave Scrub.  It not only cleans, scrubs and smoothes skin for a closer shave, but it also lifts hairs and helps reduce ingrown hairs. Guys should know never to shave against the grain because that’s the easiest way to get ingrown hairs.

TS: Does climate affect shaving routines?
Dr. Benabio: No, climate does not affect your shaving routine, as long as you stick to the three step regimen, which will ensure you get the ultimate shave.

TS: What's the biggest mistake you see men make when it comes to skincare?
Dr. Benabio: Two of the biggest mistakes men make when it comes to skincare are shaving against the grain and not using shave cream.  When you shave against the grain, you increase the probability of trapping the hairs, which can cause ingrown hairs.  Guys sometimes use bar soap (or worse - nothing at all) instead of a proper shave cream, and it is really important for guys to use products that create a safe barrier between your blade and your face - you never want a blade dragging across your dry face, that’s asking for trouble.

Additionally, men should always moisturize. You always hear women talk about it in their daily beauty routines, but it should absolutely be a part of every man’s routine. The benefits to moisturizing you skin are endless – it will look healthy and smooth.

This weeks Look of the Week is inspired by without a doubt one of my favorite holidays, 4th of July! One of those days we all celebrate in the U.S. with a day off work, BBQing with friends and family, and of course watching some fireworks light up the sky! The only thing that makes this day better is having the excuse to whip out all of your star spangled swag and show just how much American pride you have! Happy Independence Day to all my American friends!

I'm all about routine and my day to day rarely changes due to a busy schedule - how I get through my routine is always a revolving cycle of trial and error though. When it comes to respecting my face I am pretty serious about just how I do it. I like to switch up my grooming and try out some products I discover in hopes of hanging onto my youth as long as humanly possible. When Neutrogena challenged me to try out some of their latest from their men's grooming line I was all in. I've been using Neutrogena off and on since I was a teenager so it really took me way back to fighting off the acne stage of life we all go through.

I kept it simple and stuck to the grooming essentials - Neutrogena Men Invigorating Face Wash, Razor Defense Face Scrub, and Triple Protect Face Lotion with sunscreen SPF 20. All of which should be used every day - especially the SPF! My personal favorite was the Razor Defense Face Scrub - perfect as a pre-shave treatment to help raise the hairs for an extra close shave and even a daily facial exfoliator to get deep into your pours. Happy grooming fellas!

By the way - how sick are these Nike Flyknits!?

#WheredSaulGo: My Ford Roadtrip

I can not believe Summer is already half way over! At the beginning of each season, I love creating a short bucket list of activities I have to do... there's always key things that I repeat every season but for Summer, it's all about the roadtrip!

As I mentioned before Ford graciously gave us this red hot Ford Fusion SE to take for the weekend on our very own #FordRoadtrip - so after a couple hours of sitting through traffic of New Yorkers escaping the city, we made our way out to Long Island to experience everything great this small stretch of island has to offer and made sure to photo document the entire ride!
Long Island is one of the Summer staples for New Yorkers - there's just about everything out there that a Summer destination needs. As soon as we made our way onto the island, we headed Northeast to what is called the "North Fork" [for obvious reasons - the far East part of Long Island looks like two fork prongs] for a quick access to some less busy beaches just in time to catch the beautiful sunset.
As you can see, the colors that lit up the sky over the bay as the sun set was more than worth the hours of traffic! Our motel was a bit Batesy [ya know - as in the Bates Motel] which was hella spooky but just made the trip a bit more interesting. After checking in, we parked our Ford Fusion SE for the night and walked a trail to a nearby pub for some dinner and a couple [read many] nightcaps.

The next morning was an early one since we wanted to get lots accomplished. The first on the list - the local wineries that surround the town of Mattituck where we were staying. If you're of age, this is a requirement of visiting Long Island. There are endless fields of beautiful vineyards that you can taste some incredible wines and wonder through the vines of as well as some delicious oysters. We could have easily spent our entire day there but we wanted to make our way to the Hamptons of a half day at the beach. Not sure if you can tell how excited I was for the beach up above - the cartwheel is the universal sign for excited!
In all, I could not have asked for a better weekend. It flew by so and all I wanted is for it to last forever! Our #FordRoadtrip checked off one of many of our Summer bucket list adventures and the memories we made in our Ford Fusion SE traveling throughout Long Island will last forever. Big thank you to Ford for our sweet ride and, of course, thank you all for coming along for the ride!

Make sure you're following me to see more pictures from my #FordRoadtrip and from my other traveling adventures from my #WheredSaulGo series!

Staycation

Every once in a while, you just have to treat yourself to a little staycation - a time where you can just pack a small bag and enjoy your own space and some much needed silence. For me, there's just nothing like it! The city can be loud and expectedly overwhelming so when Langham Place contacted me to experience a weekend in one of their Residence Suites, I jumped on the opportunity.

Without a doubt one of the nicest hotels in the city, Langham Place Fifth Avenue, offers a unique apartment-style experience in their much sought after suites. Designed throughout with bespoke furnishings and contemporary artwork, the hotel is a perfect mix of style and comfort. I instantly indulged in some of the amenities like a massive sunken in soaker tub, a king size bed, and sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline. I even had the chance to experience one of the many spa treatments catered to guys who want that extra step into relaxation and grooming. Feeling right at home, I had to dress for the occasion in a full tuxedo as we made our way down to Measure, the hotel lounge, to listen to some live jazz music that plays every evening. I will definitely be back for another visit as soon as possible and recommend you do the same!
