Beyond Aromatherapy

With so many distractions all around us every day, it's no surprise that we're all in need of some focus in our daily lives. No matter if we're trying to work harder, perform better, or rest easier, there's always so much noise around us that's stopping us from achieving these necessary goals. Thankfully, with a little help from xSense, my daily obligations have become achievable by simply breathing.

With three types of formulas - worksense, playsense, and restsense - I partnered with xSense this week and put them to the test to see if they really did aid in completing my daily routine more efficiently. All you do is pump, roll, and breath. The small bottle, just a little thicker than a pen, has a small pump which you squeeze until you see the serum bead through the chrome roller. You then roll it on your upper lip, breath, and go! I used it at the beginning of the day when starting to work, on my way to the gym, and right before I went to bed, post-shower. Without giving too much opinion since the results vary person to person, I'll just say that I had a very productive week. It felt like less of a boost in energy and more of a feeling of determination to achieve a goal. With ingredients that are all natural, this aromatherapy process is safe to try so give it a go. If you really want to put xSense to the test yourself, there's even an affordable sample kit that includes all three scents!

Casual Comforts

Alright, I know what you're going to say... "Where are your socks?!" In my defense, we had another super mild weekend in NYC so I took full advantage of the warmer temps and decided to get one last use out of my Rockport slip-ons. I feel like I won't be getting a chance like that again until post-winter, or maybe until I make my way out of town and onto somewhere warm.

Dressing a little more dapper doesn't mean you have to be in full on formal-wear. With a style that's a little more laid back, thanks to my good ol' Texas roots, I always love pairing down my suits with a good set of casual kicks. Especially when I have a long day of trekking the city streets, comfort is key and really there's nothing more convenient than a pair of slip-ons. The one thing to remember when trying to go a little more casual is to make sure you go for quality as much as you're trying to keep comfortable. This sneak peak at Rockport's spring/summer collection slip-ons are a little more lux made with perforated suede and cool leather details, so I'm not losing any style points by wearing an old pair of beaten up sneaks. Clean and minimal go a long way... plus you will get so much more use out of a nicer pair of sneakers than those less expensive kicks you go on quick coffee runs in. Make sure you stay tuned over on Rockport's blog - Port 71 - to see just how versatile these shoes can be... more coming on that soon!

Cable Knit Chill

As you can imagine, I've been in full on hibernation mode now that the chill has come to stay. It's already hard enough to get me out of my space as it is so with a snow-storm in the forecast, I basically avoid leaving my apartment at all cause. Really, any reason to get into some cozy-wear and a good Netflix binge and I'm there!

A cable knit sweater is a no brainer for the season. Cozy and stylish, I've been obsessed with the style for years. There's just something so classic and nostalgic about wearing a heavier knit sweater that quickly takes me back to growing up in Texas... Maybe it's because it was just about the only winter piece we needed to get through our winters. This one from Superdry has been keeping me cozy all day. I love the texture and twisted yarn colors - it's a military green and navy yarn combo - which just adds a little more weight and personality. Paired with some skinny denim [also from the same brand], it will help to keep more of a tailored, slimmer feel to your OOTD style.

Now back to Netflix which is probably wondering where I went. Any suggestions on what I should be getting into this season?... Besides Making a Murder which I may have already watched in one sitting. Ha. Stay warm friends!

Mean Green Smoothie

As the whole 'New Year, New You' phase begins to wear off and we feel ourselves slipping back into old habits, there's no better time to get into some easy to follow health regimens that aren't overly aggressive to our already busy routines. With a minimum amount of ingredients that most of us already purchase, this Mean Green smoothie is my go-to when in a rush. Either in the morning as a breakfast substitute or a midday snack, this guy will keep you going and best of all takes less than five minutes to make.

INGREDIENTS:
1 banana
2 table spoons of peanut butter
1 cup of kale
1 cup of soy milk [almond or 2% milk works great too]
1 table spoon of flax chia seeds [optional]
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 cup of ice
Optional: 1 scoop of protein powder if using as a meal substitute

DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients into a blender. Blend for 3 - 5 minutes depending on your blender [my blender of choice is a Magic Bullet - works great and perfect for individual portion smoothies]. Enjoy!

#Snowmageddon2016

As New Yorkers begin to prepare for #Snowmageddon2016 with the necessities - like ya know, whiskey and cookies - I can't help but to find the silver lining in the situation...  A blizzard appropriate Look of the Week! Wool-patterned overcoats, heavier denims, chunky sweaters, and some damn good boots are just a few of my favorites that quickly made me fall in love with this weeks brand feature: AMI Paris

We may be stuck inside for the next couple of days, but that doesn't mean we need to dress down in sweats to get comfortable. There's nothing cozier than a great cable-knit sweater and a knit cap. Just layer it up with a heavier denim shirt for some extra warmth and good pair of boots that'll just get better with age and you'll be set for that endless snowfall and maybe a whiskey... or five. Stay warm friends!

Surviving the Tundra

Alright so winter storm Jonas wasn't so bad. We may have hit record snowfall but NYC was probably the most beautiful I've ever seen it. If you're following along on Snapchat or Instagram [both handles: @trendstyled] then you would have seen some of my favorite moments including discovering the Chipotle across the street was open and an early morning coffee run just as the storm was hitting its' stride... yes, I know, exciting stuff.

Today, however, was a different story. The temperatures are already on the rise and the banks of snow are decreasing by the minute. As sad as it is to see the mounds go, it'll be months until we see our winter essentials go back into hibernation. I managed to survive the blizzard like conditions this weekend sporting my appropriately named Tommy Hilfiger Tundra Puffer. A good down jacket is essential to get us through the colder months [this outerwear piece has been my go-to lately] but even more than that is a weather proof pair of boots. There's nothing more annoying than walking into what you think is snow but is actually six inches of freezing cold water just waiting to seep into your socks. These Mandalay Boots from Flexi combine the necessities - traction, comfort, and style all in one.

Comfort Zone

I'm making it a point to leave my comfort zone [my neighborhood] on the daily and really start to enjoy this city again. If you're a New Yorker then you know the struggle of leaving your neighborhood to meet with friends in different parts of the city. Almost like a game of tug of war, we trade off the hassle of traveling to meet up for coffee dates, nights out, and [window] shopping excursions. Sometimes you just have to give in and in the end, you're happy you aren't sitting at your usual spots.

Today's neighborhood exploration choice: the West Village. The look: layered cashmere.  Cashmere is an investment that we should all be willing to get into. No matter if it's in our accessories like scarves and even socks, or in our knit and outer-wear, investing in the lux threads is a wise one... and really there's nothing more cozy. As long as you really take care of your goods, it'll keep you warm for years. This J. Crew cashmere sweater and topcoat combo is a no brainer. Something about the earth-tones that warms me to my core while I'm out exploring the tundra that is NYC this week.

If you're around the West Village you'll definitely be seeing me sporting this look while I'm running around documenting some of my favorite spots of this hood on my Snapchat... oooor you could just follow - @trendstyled - and enjoy from the comfort of your warm bed ;].

Outerwear Balance

As you can tell, I've become outerwear dependent. As much as I love t-shirt weather, nothing beats a great piece of outerwear that completely changes up your daily look and style. You can get away with wearing almost anything as long as you finish it off with a great coat. No matter if you're wearing sweats or a suit, a good topcoat or jacket is the balance that helps instantly even the style grounds.

This Kenneth Cole Moto Jacket is that kind of piece. I went from lounging around my apartment in a sweatshirt and denim to instantly being ready to head out for an event-filled night. A simple layer of good outerwear helps turn any casual garb into a look that makes others think you put in more effort than you did... And really, isn't that what we're all aiming to achieve?!

American Spirit, Swiss Precision

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of checking out the latest from watch brand, Hamilton, at a sneak preview here in New York City. Originally an American brand that is Switzerland-made, Hamilton prides itself in having rich American heritage, with watch construction in a country that is known for its' precision. CEO, Sylvain Dolla was on hand to speak to design and history that so many correlate with the brand. Having only recently become watch obsessed, I was excited to learn more about what goes into making this almost a century old brand.

With a start in aviation, Hamilton Watches has a heritage dating all the way back to 1919 when the pilots of the first US Mail service wore the brand during flight. Today, pilots all around the world, from international air shows to helicopter rescuers to fighter jet squadrons rely on the brands precision in design and functionality. Not surprisingly, Hamilton Watches esthetic appeal has made the brand known in the cinema. Most recently, Hamilton Watches were worn by actors in movies like The Martian, Interstellar, and even date all the way back to 1951 when the brand made its' cinematic debut in 'The Frogmen' in which actors playing naval diving heroes wore the timepieces.

Today, Hamilton Watches is starting the year with a brand new Hamilton Collection called Broadway. As you can see in the design sketches as well as the final product in the first two images above, the brand has kept to its' precision and heritage it is known for. These sketches were pretty cool to see first hand showing just how much attention is put into the details that make these timepieces so well known. Honoring the brands cinematic debut, Hamilton Watches is also relaunching the Khaki Navy Frogman watch [shown in the sketch above and images below] which will be a true divers watch... Only appropriate since it became known while being worn by the actors who played divers in 'The Frogmen' movie.

I obviously completely tech-geeked out while learning so much about Hamilton Watches. I love seeing and hearing about the history that has made a brand what it is today and only helps solidify its' worth while I invest time and money in searching for the perfect timepiece for myself. Definitely make sure you check out the many collections the brand has to offer and see for yourself why I got so excited while partnering with this brand. A huge thank you to the brand for inviting me along to cover the event as well as check out these beautiful timepieces in person.

East Village Townhouse

As I continue to grow Trend Styled and hope to grow the audience who receives it, I am constantly searching for inspiration and trying to figure out how to communicate with all of you. With a passion for style, grooming, and travel it was only natural to start my blog covering those categories. Now, with my growing curiosity in all things design, I have recently become obsessed with how our homes, and spaces that surround us, can also be a form of personal style. If you follow on Instagram [@trendstyled] then you may have already seen my interest in home design and architecture translated there with posts I like to call '#spacespiration.' After seeing so much interest from my followers there on these types of posts, I have decided to continue the TS brand into a much wider scope of design, style, and architecture with a new category I've coined - Space-spiration. Go figure!

While I am currently based in New York City, I have decided to start this new venture with none other than a beautifully designed townhouse here in the East Village. When I'm not prowling online menswear shops, I am searching websites of architects, designers, and even furniture builders in hopes of getting inspiration for my own space. This townhouse was transformed by Selldorf Architects who are based here in New York but designs residential and commercial spaces all over world. This particular townhouse caught my eye as soon as I saw the herringbone patterned hardwood floors... a dream of mine to have in my own home one day. This massive [by any standards] five-story space is flooded with light thanks to industrial windows and a skylight that caps a sweeping spiral staircase in the center of the home. With some insanely beautiful marble accents, minimalist furniture, and colorful art that brings the white walls to life, it's a no brainer that I instantly fell in love with this home. As if the massive indoor pool that was built in the basement surrounded by bright Moroccan tiles wasn't enough to convince you.

I really hope you all enjoy these types of posts as much as I do. As always, I'm open to any comments good or bad so leave them below or feel free to reach out to me. Stay tuned for at least one of these a week showcasing homes, restaurants, hotels, and any other beautiful spaces I stumble upon during my travels and web-surfing and maybe some day soon... I'll be showing you all my own home as well!

Time, Elevated

With so many distractions in our daily lives, I can’t help but always be on the prowl for a device that will seamlessly fit into my life’s hectic schedule. Blame it on my memory of a goldfish or my phone always being on silent, but I am terrible at remembering meetings, responding to texts, and just about the worse at answering calls. With so many devices that claim to help reach organized euphoria, there are none as stylish as the Movado BOLD Motion, Engineered by HP.

Wanting to really put this smartwatch to the test, I’ve been wearing the new timepiece for just about three weeks now. My main focus is to see just how much more organized I’ll be by wearing it. The process of linking the watch to my schedule and lifestyle was seamless, much like the design and innovation that Movado is so known. Friends and coworkers constantly asked what this watch was all about [especially when it blinked with notifications I set up] and when I told them it was a smartwatch, they were all shocked. The Movado BOLD Motion Engineered by HP is esthetically designed as a sleek, modern watch and is my favorite new accessory that seamlessly blends into my OOTD.

The setup process is as easy as downloading the Movado app, turning on your Bluetooth to your phone, and deciding on what you want to be reminded of with vibration and lighting cues. My phone is always on silent, even with vibration turned off, so you can imagine just how many meetings, texts, and daily notifications I miss. Yes, I could just turn on the vibration, but even in that setting my phone is not quiet... Especially while sitting on a hard surface. There’s nothing more annoying [in my opinion] than that loud vibration noise going off while in a meeting or having dinner with friends. Once you’re set up, you will no longer have to worry about interruptions while being connected to the day’s tasks and obligations. As if that’s not enough, this device even tracks your steps helping you to not only meet your daily organization goals but also keeps those ‘new year, new you’ goals in check!

Coat Check

A New York City winter is all about finding the best way to layer up to make it through those brief moments outside as we make our way from our homes to the train or from the train to whatever destination that's on the schedule. If you layer correctly, you'll stay warm and it won't be too much of a hassle delayering when entering a warm space. One of the most annoying things to me about winter is coat check, so I avoid it all cause... You rarely stay in one place too long so waiting in line to retrieve your coat when leaving can be a pain!

I always go for heavier fabrics when attempting to stay warm in the winter elements. Wool is just about the best you can get when trying to fend off the frigid gusts that blow through the skyscrapers of NYC. This pinstriped outerwear piece from Slate and Stone is a newby in my OOTD rotation. With a growing coat collection, it's great to mix it up a bit with some classic pattern to help elevate my daily style. Layered over a heavy wool blazer like this Billy Reid Lexington Jacket that I discovered on HauteLook will just help in style and with warmth! Now if I can just make it through these last [and worse!] few weeks of winter.

Tribeca Loft

While space seems to be a novelty in New York City, this refurbished loft that was once a caviar warehouse, goes against all odds measuring at 3,000 square feet and sprawls across the top floor as well as rooftop of the beautifully designed space. The residence that was transformed in 2013 by Andrew Franz Architect is situated in one of the most sought after locations in Manhattan - Tribeca. With features like a sunken interior courtyard with a retractable glass roof, rooftop garden, custom steel staircase, and repurposed timbers from the old roof joists, the space is not only masculine and attractive but also pays homage to the history of the building.

This is a perfect example of how your home environment can distinctly compliment your personal style. While once a warehouse, the residence no longer feels damp and dingy, and instead, is now a livable work of art. Perfect spots of color, textures, and materials that are used only helps to define the space into a home. A perfect balance of style and trend easily makes this a home a space that helps inspire my own style and, hopefully soon, my own space.

The Perfect Polo

If you've been following along on Instagram [@trendstyled] then you've seen some of the crazy adventures I've had over the past two weeks in New Zealand. This is my fourth time here and still find myself in awe of the beauty of this seemingly untouched land. Rolling hills, sprawling forests, crystal clear rivers and lakes, and unforgettable sunsets are just a few reasons why I've come back so many times... The warm weather isn't too bad either.

While the temperatures rarely get too high, the New Zealand sun is stronger than back in the States, so I've managed to keep it pretty low-key and casual while on this trip. This Parke and Ronen Knit Polo is my current go-to while in the heat. It's super lightweight and the fit is spot on so it really can't be beat. Paired with a lighter shade of denim and some of my favorite suede sneakers from Hydrogen-1 and I was set to hit the lake-side bar for happy hour just in time for sunset. Make sure you're following along on Instagram [@trendstyled] for all the extras from the trip including bridge jumping, camping, and tons more outdoor adventures!

Ah it feels great to be home in NYC! After an adventure filled two weeks in New Zealand, it feels great to just be in my own space [read: bed] and back on my daily grind. I didn't manage to get a lot of work done, so sorry for the lack of posts, but am starting the week with a couple shots I took while in the small vacation town of Akaroa, New Zealand.

The sun is much stronger on that side of the world than here in the States so a good pair of shades are vital. With cool features like colored mirrored lenses and tortoise shell details, these from Illesteva will definitely step up your sunglass game. The shades are pretty unique, so I went on the more casual side with the rest of my look. White sneakers and quality denim are just a few of my other must haves when packing for my trips... No matter the season, these are essential.

The winter coats are making their way out and the rain boots are coming in. It's that weird time of year when Mother Nature just can't make up her mind on what's happening with the weather, so I'm taking the necessary precautions to be prepared for my day. My friends over at SWIMS just sent over these Barry Workboots and I'm kinda obsessed.

Made with SWIMS signature waterproof nylon and treated nubuk leather, these workboots will keep your feet warm and dry during those spur of the moment spring-time showers. Not to mention will keep your boot game strong. Dressed up or dressed down, I'll be sporting these guys through the rest of winter and straight through spring. Make sure you check out the full SWIMS collection of workboots, chelsea boots, and brogues over on their site and try some for yourself!

Go for Gold

While my daily clothing style stays just about consistent, when decorating my habitat I tend to be a little more fickle on day to day inspirations. You will rarely ever find me wearing anything gold, bronze, or anywhere in the Oscar®-similar shade but lately, when it comes to my space, I've been hooked on the lux shine. Small hints of the metallic color can transform your space into an ultra-modern kind of mood but there's no need in blowing your budget to get the look. Just check out these affordable examples if you want to give the 'Go for Gold' upgrade a try.

1. Morton Skull - Z Gallerie • Stack this guy on books or solo on a shelf to get a punch of shine in a usually dull spot around your home. I'm currently using one as a book end on my fireplace mantle.
2. Gallery 33" Brass Wall Mirror - CB2 • Mirrors are like shoes, you can never have too many. I love the muted gold [also called brass] detail that gives a basic mirror a bit more of an elevated design esthetic.
3. Threshod™ Desktop Globe w/ Gold Base - Target • Travel obsessed, I love having a globe near my desk in hopes of inspiring my next big travel adventure. Just upgrade a basic globe with a cool black and gold one.
4. Studio Tripod Floor Lamp - West Elm • I love the industrial feel of a studio style floor lamp. The gold tones and wood accents just help to give a more modern and less cold appeal.
5. Marble Oval Coffee Table - West Elm • Marble can always be a bit of an investment but this piece from West Elm is easily transitional into any kind of home style so it's worth every dollar saved.
6. Geo Bottle Stoppers - West Elm • For the entertainer that wants to dress to impress the table.
7. Glass Shadow Boxes - West Elm • One of my favorite ways of organizing smaller accessories. I house everything from bar-ties and jewelry to even polaroids in these beautiful accents.

Signs of Spring

As you can imagine, at the first sight of warm weather in the forecast, New Yorkers ditch the heavy jackets and go full on summer mode when dressing for the day. There's such a great feeling when we make it through another bitter cold winter and stride into spring. People are happier, there's more of a rush to wake up and enjoy the day, and there's always some kind outdoor event to get out and enjoy. Being from Texas, I'm definitely a boy of summer but usually by then, we all take the warm days for granted and don't really appreciate the good weather as much as we should.

Thankfully today, it's the first sign of spring and the warm weather to be a constant. One of my favorite trends for spring is flight jackets. This Alpha Industries Flight Jacket is a staple for spring and I wear it on the daily. A good tee, like this one from Buck Mason [that just might be my favorite new tee brand] goes a long way during the warmer temperatures so invest in some and ditch the budget three packs. Trust me. It instantly upgrades your warm weather transitioning style!

Not really sure where it came from but lately, I've been obsessed with all things black and gold. As you saw in my recent 'spacespiration' post, the color scheme is quickly overtaking my world and I'm not mad at it one bit. So when I discovered these new headphones from Swedish brand Sudio, it was a no brainer to work them into my life. Thankfully, esthetics aside [cause as you can see, they are super cool and compliment most any style], the sound quality and comfort of the plugs had me head over heels.

With up to eight hours of use with a full charge and a no-strings attached design, these bluetooth enabled headphones have me prepped for my days trekking the city between meetings and even have me jammin to Biebs at the gym [don't judge, I'm already judging my self]. Don't worry if gold isn't your thing, Sudio has you covered with different color combos so check out their entire collection which ships to most countries including the United States!
