Cognac Classics

There's something about finding a fresh pair of kicks for a new season. When it comes to shoes, my suggestion is to always invest in a classic pair that you know won't be a trend of the moment. No offense to those 'sneaker-headz' that stand in line for hours for that new collaboration release but chances are, the sneaker style will be forgotten about months later and you'll be stuck regretting shelling out a couple hundred bucks on those must haves of the season.

If on trend is what you're looking for, then look no further than a classic pair of penny loafers. These Johnston and Murphy Allred Penny Loafers, sold exclusively at Nordstrom, are my fall refresh kicks that I'll be wearing all season. The cognac color which seems to be mimicking the already changing leaves, gives an instant richness to any one of your daily fall looks. Summer might already be coming to an end but shoes like this make it all worth it. Just to help ease the pain of the end of 'Summer Fridays' I've partnered with Johnston and Murphy and Nordstrom to help upgrade your shoe game. Just follow the widget steps below and a pair of these Nordstrom exclusive, Johnston and Murphy Allred Penny Loafers could be delivered to you!

It's been a little longer than I ever want to go without blogging but it has all been for good reason. Over the past few months I've been working on an accessories brand which, in the beginning, I thought was going to be a breeze... I was wrong! The past two weeks has been non-stop with designing, assembling, and putting together the finishing touches to make the first season's collection perfect. I can't be more excited to introduce to all of you... Sauras Co.!

Made from antique, glass beads, each Sauras Co. piece is hand-strung in New York City. All of the beads are responsibly sourced from different periods between the 1800's and the very early 1900's from famous bead makers in Italy, France, and the Czech Republic just to name a few. The Fall / Winter 2015 collection was inspired by one of my favorite destinations, Australia. Great hues of deep greens, translucent blues, and sunset reds bring you into the scenic views that make up this countries beautiful coast. Shown here is one of the most popular styles, the Aquamarine Double-Wrapped Bracelet, which easily compliments any style without being too flashy. All pieces retail between $40 and $85 with the more expensive styles being very limited and the most time consuming to make since the beads are so tiny. Check out the full Sauras Co. collection and let me know what you think!

The Proper Shave

The world of grooming has come a long way for men. With the market growing larger and larger every year of men who want to look their best, grooming is a major part of accomplishing that goal. No matter how you dress, what your style, it all starts with a great grooming regimen... And it all starts with a proper shave.

I've teamed up with the team at Schick Hydro® to give some basic steps in shaving that every guy needs to follow in order to get the proper shave. Some of these steps are obvious but there might be a couple things you've been doing wrong all along. Even I was surprised by some of the things I've been missing.

Step One: It all starts with a good scrub. Your skin should be clean of oils and dirt so find a good exfoliating scrub that will get your skin prepared for your shave. This also helps with raising facial hair which will prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs. It's best and easiest to do this in the shower so you can really get a proper soaking and cleaning.

Step Two: Lather on your shaving cream. I like to use creams over foams because a good cream will help to moisturize as your lather. I also like to leave the lathered cream on my face for a couple minutes to ensure deep penetration. This will help to reduce friction and will keep moisture on the skin to enhance softening of the more coarse whiskers.

Step Three: Grab your Schick Hydro® Razor - I like to use the Schick Hydro® 5 Sensitive Skin Razor for an extra soft glide - and begin your shave. Remember to shave in the direction that your hair grows... Depending on the area of your face, this can be in multiple direction so make sure you change your positioning as you shave. I like to hold my skin tight with my free hand to help guide my Schick Hydro® Razor for a closer shave.

Step Four: Immediately rinse with cool water. Once you've covered the area you want to shave, it's important to completely rinse off any residue but with cooler water instead of warm. It will calm the skin of any irritation. For some extra soothing action, complete your regimen with a really good after shave cream to get some post-shave moisture. Avoid anything with alcohol in it. Not only will it burn, but it will only dry out your skin faster.

These four easy steps really don't take much time out of your morning routine but can really make some major improvements in your skin quality. And really, who doesn't want better skin?! I'd love to hear any other tips you guys might have for me. Comment below or shoot me an email - Saul@TrendStyled.com - and let me know what's on your mind!

Leisure Life

It's not every day that we New Yorkers get to just sit and enjoy some downtime. Between busy work schedules, endless errands, and attempting to see friends as often as possible, when the chance comes where I have an extra ten minutes I look for the nearest stoop and just sit! It's probably just about my favorite thing to do when the weather is as perfect as it is today.

As soon as summer started, it's already making it's last call which only makes days like today where I can just sit and enjoy some people watching and an iced coffee that much better. For my leisure-wear, comfort is key so a great deconstructed blazer is a necessity. This one from TOMORROWLAND's SS 2015 Collection is just about as good as it gets for the transitioning weather... super light for the warmer days and can easily be layered for a much cozier look once we get into fall. I kept to my classic style with a great indigo washed shirt from J. Crew and some favorite summer denim from Levi's Made and Crafted. The wash on these jeans are perfect for the more casual lifestyle we all attempt to have during the summer months in the city... if only these leisure-days would last.

Bespoke by Beau

This week I've partnered with Beau, a custom suiting maker based in New York City delivering some high-quality digs to some dapper dudes. When it comes to custom suiting there's no one doing bespoke quite like Beau. Using some of the finest materials, mostly from Europe, these suits are 100% custom made. Designed by the customer, Beau uses 21 different body measures to create the perfect fitting suit and all delivered to you within 5 weeks!

I met with Greg, Vice President of Beau, at one of my favorite hotels in the city [Hotel on Rivington] to get introduced to the brand by creating one of my very own designs... This double-breasted blazer is the result. After deciding on the double-breasted silhouette, we started with a large collection of quality fabrics which took me the longest to decide on. I went with this blue on blue open-windowpane design for a hint of detail but still very classic. After deciding on the smaller details like buttons, stitching, inside lining, and monogramming [which is the best way to personalize any piece of clothing], we moved on to the measuring process. Greg went through the 21 points to get exact measurements needed for the proper fit. After about 5 minutes of posing for measurements we were done and after only about 3 weeks, this perfectly fitting double-breasted blazer was the result! If you're around the New York City area, make sure you check out the suit collections Beau offers to get into your very own original designs!

Pre-Flight Regimen

$

When it comes to reviewing new grooming products, I always like to put them to the test in more aggressive environments than most people might encounter just to make sure they'll hold up to just about any conditions.... and really, there's nothing more aggressive than traveling on an international, fifteen hour flight to New Zealand. It is probably the perfect conditions to really get an idea of how a skin product works, so when Kiehl's sent over their new Daily Reviving Concentrate, I knew this would be the best way to test the brand's claims that it will keep your skin looking youthful and radiant all day.

THE REGIMEN:
Pre-flight, I went for some good exfoliating action using Kiehl's Facial Fuel to start with a clean base. I like to use an exfoliator just about four times a week but especially before boarding a flight... Last thing you want is clogged pores while in flight cabin conditions. After a good rinse with warm water and a dry, I applied about three drops of the Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate into the palm of my hand and massaged them into my face focusing on my T-zone [forehead, nose, and chin]. After letting the oils dry and penetrate into my skin, I finished the regimen with Kiehl's Oil Eliminator Men's Moisturizer and some facial sunscreen. The entire regimen took on about five to ten minutes and wasn't much different than my current morning routine.

THE RESULTS:
At first, I was cautious about using an oil on my face thinking it would feel greasy and leave an extra shine on my skin. The Daily Reviving Concentrate did neither. I could barely feel a difference of the product on my skin due to its' lightweight, 100% natural, and mineral oil free ingredients plus, one of the best parts for us guys, scent free! Now to the results... I was already dreading the post-flight feeling of my skin especially after knowing I'd be boarding the longest flight I've ever been on at just over fifteen very long hours. Thanks to the Daily Reviving Concentrate, my skin could not have felt better. I usually make my way to the closest sink to give my face a rinse post-flight but this time it wasn't needed! My skin still felt fresh, moisturized, and, best of all, protected from the inflight environment. The moisturizer I followed up with after the oil kept to my skin and didn't make me feel clogged as soon as I exited my flight. I was happy but, already being Kiehl's obsessed, was not surprised with the results. It's all about routine though... you don't have to be boarding a long flight in order to use the concentrate, you should make it a part of your daily routine in order for any product to really improve your skin! Happy grooming fellas.

Transitionally Layered

So it's definitely been longer than I ever want to wait for an update, but if you've been following along on Instagram - @trendstyled - then you'd know I have a good excuse. I'm currently making my way around New Zealand and Australia to visit my family on this side of the world and to check out some collaboration prospects. This is my second time visiting and I have to say, these countries really are some of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited. Australia itself is widely known as an obvious destination for tourists, but if you ever make your way around to the South Pacific, you have to stop into New Zealand... truly some of the best views of untouched lands, forest lined winding roads, and pristine coastlines you'll ever encounter!

The weather South of the Equator is doing a weather transition opposite than the Northern countries - winter into spring, not summer into fall - so I was wary of packing the proper layers in preparation for this long trip. Luckily, my friends at American Eagle Outfitters sent over the perfect transitional layer. Mimicking the plush sheep that are seen all over New Zealand which easily out number the countries population, this Sherpa Fleece Jacket was the perfect addition to my travel garb. Either dressed down with a beanie and denim like I'm styling it here or layered over your office tailored wear, the AEO Sherpa Fleece Jacket helps make that weather transition a little more stylish.

Fall Nostalgia

Without a doubt one of my favorite seasons, fall is all about cozy layers, long mornings in bed, and a good cup of coffee. As much as I try to make this a daily routine, I at least make it a weekend tradition during the cooler months of the year. There's just something so nostalgic about the smell of a great cup of joe that instantly gets me in the mood for the cooler seasons and leaves me completely paralyzed with calm and relaxation.

Speaking of great scents, Folgers® recently sent me two flavors from their Gourmet Selections - Caramel Drizzle® and Vanilla Biscotti - AKA just about the best smelling [and tasting!] coffee I've brewed up. I'm currently hooked on the Caramel Drizzle®. I don't always drink hot coffee but the smooth, buttery flavors of caramel instantly get me in a cozy mood for a day in bed... I couldn't think of a better way to escape the weeks usual chaos.

To be in New Zealand again this year has been an unforgettable experience. Without a doubt, the most beautiful country I've ever been to so I really made it an obligation to live in the moment and enjoy every bit of what these two islands have to offer. We started on the South island once again which is mostly made up of open sheep occupied hillsides, wild forests, and some of the most crystal clears waters I've ever seen. After about six days traveling the winding roads of the South, we made our way to the nations capital, Auckland, located on the Northern tip of the North island. Enjoy some of the images I snapped and see for yourself... FYI, none of these images were edited. Happy travels friends!

As the seasons start to change to cooler days here in NYC, I can't help but be in full prep-mode for some cozy nights in. It's almost impossible to get people [including me] to leave their apartments during the winter in this city so I have no shame in investing in some great sleepy wear garb. This Look of the Week is inspired by some ultra comfy nights ahead... and thanks to some ultra sleepy gear from Sleepy Jones, it was pretty easy to get prepared!

Looking for your next travel destination? Then look no further than Sydney, Australia! If I was to relocate to anywhere else in the world, it would without a doubt be to Sydney. Beautiful coastlines, crystal blue beaches, star-filled night skies, and some pretty rugged terrain outside of the major cities... not to mention some of the best looking people I've ever encountered. Sorry New York City, but you have some major competition out there. Just take a look for yourself...

[Short-Sleeve] Sweater Weather

At this point, between pumpkin' [spice] sightings all over the city to the undeniable chill in the air, it is full on fall-mode... and really, I'm not mad about it one bit. This short few weeks is probably one of the best times to live in or visit New York City so my suggestion is get here fast before we're all complaining about slush, blizzards, and the almost unbearable winter months. One thing not to complain about though is fall style garb.

Seems like with every changing season there's some kind of new trend or fad to get into before it's old news. Thankfully, an oldie [but goodie] is making it's comeback for the season: The short-sleeve sweater. This one from Homecore is a recent purchase and has already become a staple in my transitioning wardrobe. The hem details are rolled and raw which just adds to the relaxed feel of the sportier version of your basic sweater. The wearable lifespan might be a little short during the colder months so for now, I'll be styling this into as many outfits as possible!

Ok so false alarm! It is officially summer again... or more like Indian Summer. The sun was on blast today and I didn't see one person complaining about it. As beautiful of a day as it was here in New York City, I was even more excited about getting to wear this Simon Miller Indigo Baseball Shirt again. Known for his denim and indigos, Simon Miller updated the baseball shirt [which was a huge spring- summer trend] in a way that fits the brand perfectly... simple navy and black stripes, great relaxed fit, and the perfect use of indigo for an instant style upgrade. Warning: Do not lay on your white sheets while wearing this [or any] indigo shirt unless you want a body outline on your bed! Lesson learned.

Constantly on the prowl for a kicks refresh, I can't help but collect beautiful shoes. As the leaves start to turn from green to brown, yellow, and red, the hues of my wardrobe begin to turn as well. There's something about fall that just makes me feel so cozy so besides acclimating my daily looks for the colors of the season, it's all about finding comfort in your style... and it all starts with a good pair of shoes.

This season, I've partnered with my friends at Rockport as a brand ambassador to share some of my favorites styles. Wingtips are just about as classic as it gets. They are those year round shoes you should invest in and wear often for just about any occasion. I have just about half a dozen wingtips in my collection but none as comfortable as these. Created with shock absorbing inserts, these Rockport Wingtips will quickly become your go-to in footwear. Either styled up with a suit and tie or styled down like I'm showing here, you really can't go wrong when getting comfortable in these shoes. Winter Lovin

"I'm actually loving the cold right now!" These were words I actually said this past weekend which I never would have thought to say less than five years ago. Being from Texas originally, we have two seasons: extreme heat and tornados... so when it comes to having all four seasons here in New York, this is all still very new to me. Besides the scenic views that comes with the weather transition, layering up with great fall and winter pieces is probably what did me in for loving the cooler months that my friends back home couldn't imagine living through for even one year.

Thankfully, my friends at Tommy Hilfiger sent me some pieces from their latest men's fall-winter collection to style into my daily layered looks. For this mornings extra nippy temps, I started with this Hunter Down Parka [which if you live anywhere with a real winter you know, a down parka is a vital piece in surviving the colder months] and layered it over some windowpane and striped patterned pieces. I love mixing patterns when layering no matter the season so this Tommy Hilfiger Windowpane Check Blazer and Striped Crewneck Sweater were easy choices when browsing the collection. Mixing patterns helps break up an otherwise monochromatic look.

Share your style using #MyTommyMag on social so we can see how you're styling your Tommy Hilfiger pieces! Some are being featured over on their site and social channels just in case you need some inspiration... you might just see yours there!

Raise the Heat

There are few things that I live by in the style department. In an effort to always evolve, I rarely try to fit into one particular style mode and try my best to switch it up as often as possible. For fall and winter, I love a good mix of layers as much as the next person but there's one thing that I definitely live by to get me through the chilly days... Uniqlo HeatTech

With everything from underwear to sweaters, and everything in between and underneath, Uniqlo has just about everything you'll need to stay warm this season. The best part, besides being wearable as a slim under-layer or a stylish over-layer, it is all super affordable so really there's no reason not to invest in the collection.

Keeping warm all starts with a good cap. This Uniqlo HeatTech Knitted Cap, which comes in a big range of colors, is probably the best investment I've made this season. It definitely traps all the heat in and keeps me super warm during these already chilly days. If anything it keeps my larger than normal ears tucked in and protected from the elements. The vest isn't HeatTech but is that perfect lightweight layer we all need for those in between days... not to mention the season appropriate color. Make sure you check out the entire range of Uniqlo HeatTech before that dreaded first snow... it's coming!

Day of Discovery

It’s not every day that I come across an area I’ve never discovered before. Having lived in NYC for over five years now, I thought I had seen all this little island has to offer but today, I discovered the coolest little spot that was virtually deserted and untouched. As you can see, it’s almost as if I wasn’t in the city at all and instead far up north in the rolling hills of Vermont. Bright orange and red leaves, naturally carved out paths, and cool boulders I can only imagine how old… it was only by chance I came prepared.

Speaking of discovery, I was recently introduced to Flexi - a great resource for all things footwear. With just about every type of style you can imagine, Flexi is a year round stop for picking up some much needed shoes. These Flexi Mandalay Boots are such a cool mix of urban, industrial, and rugged… perfectly prepared for today’s activities of hiking around trails and the city. Definitely will be living in these thanks to the comfort fit insole and the perfect shade of leather that will only get better with age! Check out the full collection of kicks and discover some styles for yourself.
