ASOS S|S 14

Last week I had the opportunity to check out the ASOS Spring/Summer 2014 collection presented by the man himself, ASOS head of menswear design, John Mooney. I embarked on the Soho public relations office first thing in the morning and got to experience the collection before the crowds of editors, stylists, and bloggers overtook the industrial loft space.
The collection started with darker hues of pieces inspired by current trends of streetwear design including some bad ass prints, leathers, denims, and metallic pops. Moving more towards masculine, blacks and grays, Mooney explained the ease of steering away from obvious pastels and lighter spring/summer colors and giving more of a darker look for the guy slowly transitioning out of his winter wardrobe.

As the weather begins to warm up a bit more, guys are more willing to go lighter both in color and in material. I loved the softer weight materials used in this part of the collection which included some color blocking and the much needed lighter crewneck sweaters, not to mention the push in trend of elevated sweatpants. ASOS was definitely one of the first to catch this trend of dressier, slimmer fitting sweats and they once again improve on the designs of your basic gymwear.
The collection of course had what I love most about ASOS... some impeccably tailored pieces of suits but this season, with a young, fresh twist of color blocking and some punches of patterns including florals and even religious prints that I could only compare to the upgraded Rome + Juliet which starred Leonardo Dicaprio.
The collection finished with some graphic prints and leathers that had me wishing the preview wasn't over. Most notable was some motocross inspired leather jackets that I must have in my endless collection of ASOS gear! I am always impressed with this company and now, after finally meeting the designer behind it all, I can officially announce my addiction and want for more and more! The affordability of the product does not halter the creative genius and fashion boundaries that hold so many other companies back and that's what I love most about this company.

Later that night, I had the pleasure of joining the entire ASOS team for dinner at Soho House along with some other great friends, new and old, of menswear bloggers from around New York City. Could not have asked for a better night of getting to know the team personally which only solidified my love for the brand. Great people, good food, and endless amounts of flowing cocktails... what else do you need?! Wondering where the pictures are from this event? Sorry guys, no cameras allowed for good reason!
