As the weather starts to warm, along with our frigid hearts, we begin to plan the essential weekend getaways. As much as I can be a homebody, there's just nothing like fleeing the city for a quick trip and everything that comes with those few nights in a hotel... the minibar, the lobby bar, the pool bar, and soon after all of this "I'm on vacation!!" excused drinking, jumping on the ultra comfy hotel bed.
I start with a great pair of chinos that aren't only comfortable for the quick plane ride but also the perfect day pant lounging around by the pool or strolling along the beach. They are a must for any spring/summer trips. Speaking of comfort, while I am perpetually late, rushing to get through security and to my gate a good pair of sustainable shoes are required as well. Canvased kicks will get you through mostly anything, especially the security check point when you are forced to slip them off in a rush, but for that one classy night you attempt to have, throw a simple pair of loafers in your duffle. Lose the strings and the wheels... loafers are a must have for the spring and those roll around carry ons are a must lose for the styled. Invest in both, they should last you for a while. These pieces get better with some wear. Include some indigo colored denim that can easily be dressed up with those loafers and a cotton, light-weight blazer that is easily folded neatly into your duffle. Throw on some classic shades and you are set with some basics that will get you through your weekend away. Don't forget the Burt's Bees chap-stick... nothing worse than sunburn chapped lips!
