A Morning with Rockport

Now that the temps are on the rise, the days just seem to get busier and busier. I always find myself packing my days trekking from lunch meetings to coffee breaks to events without having the chance to stop, so this week I'm putting a little more time into avoiding the subways and enjoying the city and this weather. While there's no avoiding the non-stop trek in a city of walkers, there are some simple steps I like to follow to make the days a little more enjoyable and comfortable.

First, it's all about the footwear. They don't call New York City the 'Concrete Jungle' for no reason so on busy days finding balance in style and comfort is key. I've been a fan of Rockport since first discovering them last season, so I was super excited to partner with the brand again to share some of my go-to styles for spring. These Harbor Point Slip Ons were my shoe of choice today. Made with Adiprene technology which is shock absorbent and a conforming footbed that molds to your feet, these guys easily gets my through my long days comfortably. Just as important though, all without losing any style points. Suede kicks are a huge trend that you just can't miss out on this spring so, for me, these were a no-brainer!

I planned my day to get the maximum amount of outside time as possible. While coffee is always a must, one of my favorite spots in the city is Oste Cafe in the East Village. Without a doubt some of the coolest tiled floors in the city [as you can see above] which helps make for some fun Insta posts. I had to peel myself from the beautiful marbled tables and head out for a day of meetings - which is always hard. Since most of my day is spent on the West Side, I always utilize the High-line while walking. You easily forget that you're in the middle of the hustle and bustle that is NYC so it's nice to have a little calm between meetings. Plus, there's some of the coolest architecture that's always nice to dream about owning along the way. After a quick lunch meeting - my go to lunch is any salad with seared tuna... so damn yummy! - I made my way through the Meatpacking District for a few quick meetings through some of my favorite cobble stoned streets.

Finding comfort is always key but the route you take helps to make it all that much more enjoyable. I couldn't imagine living in any other city at the moment. With so much to see and do, having it all so accessible by just walking really does help to appreciate a good pair of shoes. Make sure you check back tomorrow for part two of my day with Rockport shoes.

Morning Charge Up

Mornings aren't as terrible as most of us dread. As long as you start the day right, the rest of the day will go off without a hitch. I've been breakfast sandwich obsessed as of late and have made it my mission to hit up as many breakfast spots around NYC... Sometimes even for dinner. This morning I went to a fun Chelsea restaurant called bec - short for bacon, egg, cheese. Without a doubt one of my favorite morning charge up cafes that I'll be stopping by on the daily!

I'm keeping it pretty casual today in my new Rockport truStride Sneakers... the perfect kicks for my most active days. Constructed with lightweight materials, shock-absorbing cushioning, and the seasons must have suede details. The punch of ketchup red is just a little extra somethin to get you through your day but these guys come in a huge range of spring appropriate colors so check them all out.

A huge bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich - and a large iced coffee, of course! - and I'm charged for my day. I'll be playing hooky most of the day since the sun has peaked out of the clouds... A picnic by the water, a bike-ride along the hudson, and a patio dinner [finally!] is on the schedule. Hump day doesn't get better than that!

#WheredSaulGo: Thompson Playa Del Carmen

Ah, nothing beats a beach getaway! With the weather in New York rollercoastering between cold and warm, sunny and rain, a trip down South was a necessity last weekend. Friend and fellow blogger, Everett Williams and I partnered with one of Thompson Hotels newest properties - Thompson Playa Del Carmen - just in time to escape another full weekend of thunderstorms and chill in NYC.

At no surprise, as soon as we stepped foot onto the property, there was an instant scramble to attempt to reschedule our flights for a later date and extend our stay! With amenities like a rooftop covered by an infinity pool, multiple bars, lounge beds, a DJ [which by the way had the BEST music blasting all day!], and some of the friendliest staff who welcomed us each day, we knew we were in for a great three days. No need for too many words here. Just a short guide below and plenty of images to convince you to start booking those flights to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico!

If you like these types of travel posts, then make sure you're following along with all my travels over on my Instagram [@trendstyled] using the hashtag - #WheredSaulGo! Happy travels!

TO SLEEP

TO EAT/DRINK
Catch • With some of the freshest fish just feet away, it just made sense for the hotel to open the NYC based restaurant on its' rooftop overlooking the ocean and all of Playa Del Carmen. We were treated like kings and let our host choose most of what we ate. With small plate appetizers, we were able to sample some of the best dishes. Truffle sashimi, grilled octopus, wagyu short rib tacos [my favorite] is what we started with which was just the opening act. For our entree, we all shared a crispy whole "catch" of the day... an entire fish fried and presented before being filleted for us. We of course went  for the truffle fries as a side. Dinner isn't complete without dessert which at first we said, "We couldn't possibly!" Turns out... We could once they surprised us with the "Hit Me" chocolate cake. Basically a tower of chocolate cake, brownie, and liquid 'Klondike' bar that melts over the top as soon as you hit it with a spoon. I'm getting hungry again just typing this!

Cinco• The other rooftop restaurant where we spent most of our breakfasts, lunches, and pre-dinner cocktail hours. Just check out the super fresh oysters in the image below for a glimpse of the beach appropriate menu.

Thompson Beach House• Located just about two blocks away on the beach, this small pool oasis has a relaxing vibe with large daybeds and a smaller, private pool. The DJ starts around noon so get a spot early and drink up. We had the Rosemary and Julio cocktail and the Jarrito Mezcal cocktail [both pictured below]... it may have only been ten in the morning but the sun was shining and our cocktail waitress reassured us that we deserved it! We also ordered the avocado toast [of course] which may have been the best I've ever [yes, EVER] had.

TO SHOP
Just walk down to the ground level for a wide range of shops. Everything from a H&M to a Calvin Klein store is offered on the first level of the Thompson complex. If you're looking for some authentic gifts, souvenirs, and handmade crafts, just walk up and down the main strip which is located right in front of the hotel.

Home Refresh

Your wardrobe isn't the only thing that needs a refresh every season. When it comes to your space, your home is easily a reflection of your style, mood, and esthetic. There's no need for a complete overhaul though. By just making small tweaks here and there, your home style game can easily be just as on point as your outfit of the day!

This season, I partnered with my friends at Minted to jump start the season's home refresh. If you haven't heard of the online retailer, it is a super affordable spot to discover new artists and purchase some killer art and home decor. Being in a bit of a Texas kind of mood as of late, I went for some modern interpretations of images that remind me of being back home.

The longhorn image, named Staredown, was a no brainer since it's always the first thing people ask when I tell them I'm from Texas... No, there aren't longhorns and cows in my backyard! 😒 Cacti however, are everywhere in Texas and being a bit succulent obsessed [but can never manage to keep any plant alive], I loved the Blue Cactus print photographed in the desert. The frame is even made of old barn wood - Minted lets you choose your own frame design too! - which is a very Texas kind of accent. Seeing as I am living in NYC, I needed a cool print to round out the wall to make it look more like an art installation and not just scenes from Texas. The graphic blue print, called Cera No 1 by Megan Wells, is one of those prints that can be interpreted a million different ways. For me though, it reminded me of the ripples in the lakes that I grew up going to all summer with my family. Your prints and artwork on your walls don't just have to look cool... It's finding your inspiration [like your home-state] and interpreting it in a way that reminds you of that person, place, or thing. That's what gives your home style some purpose behind it.

When it comes to my bedding, I'm usually an all white minimalist kind of guy. So for this refresh, my friends at Lacoste Home sent over a bit of color to help get me out of my basics mood. Cool geometric designs, clean lines, and some cool hues of gray and blue only help to compliment the art on the walls. Don't skimp with budget bedding... It's where you spend a large part of your day so treat yourself! A full list of what I'm currently sleeping in is listed below.

Spring Showers

These spring showers are still coming strong and with most of my day being spent outside trekking between meetings, I've got to be prepared. A good raincoat is just about as important as brushing my teeth when starting the day. This Genéve Jacket from SWIMS is not only water and wind proof, it's also super stylish that'll have me covered for whatever the day brings. Paired down with some of the most comfortable loafers I've been in - also by SWIMS - that are made with technology that is used in running sneakers, and I was set for the days showers. Now if only I could find some waterproof denim!

Pool season is finally here and the timing couldn't be better! We've all survived the colder months, endless amounts of spring showers, and now we get to start to soak up some much needed sun. We all look better with a nice tan but now, with the help from my friends at Retromarine, we can all look a little more stylish while taking that dip in the pool too. With endless amounts of 'Spanish' inspired and geometric patterns and solid colors, it's hard to choose just one pair. I went for these Sevilla trunks in the mid-thigh length. Each has the option for a shorter style like mine, or just above the knee for those taller guys. Pretty cool, huh?! Now excuse me while I spend the next three months in the pool!

So if you've ever experienced Governors Ball here in NYC, you know exactly how I'm feeling right now. Mondays are always hard to get back into the swing of things but after a couple days spent running between stages, eating one too many corndogs, maybe a couple too many cocktails, and all while screaming and laughing with friends, the struggle is real! If you were following all weekend on Instagram or Snapchat [both: @trendstyled] then you've probably already seen first hand at just how much fun I had partnering with Kettle Brand to attend the festival.

Even though the third day was cancelled [apparently due to sunshine and some of the best weather we've had all spring], I still got to see some of my favorites like Haim, The Killers, The Knocks, and one of my all time favorites, Purity Ring... which without a doubt, was the best show of the weekend! If you spotted me during the festival then you probably caught me with at least one bag of Kettle Brand Chips in my hands, so I can't thank the team enough for keeping my hangry at bay... I can still smell the Hawaiian BBQ on my hands and I'm not mad one bit!

Special shout out to French Connection for dressing me from head to toe for the entire weekend! Click through some of the links below to shop some of my festival looks plus some extras I'll be living in all summer long.

Summer Wheats

Summer style is all about dressing down, getting comfortable, and enjoying the warm weather that seemed like a lifetime to wait for. I'm finally fighting off the darker hues and going for a much lighter tone... Which came just in time for last week's beach escape.

If you're following on Insta [@trendstyled], then you definitely caught my latest trip out of the city to the newly renovated Gurney's property in Montauk. If you've been out to Montauk before, then you know just how much fun it is but going mid-week is more of my kinda attitude. It's a lot more laid back, less crowded, and less pressure to drink til you drop. The pressure of style is still a big focus though.

Like any other beach spot, the colors stay on the lighter hues of browns, whites, and grays while the pattern of the locale is a no brainer - nautical stripes! I love any moment I get a chance to wear white denim but these wheat selvedge jeans from J. Crew are some of my summer favorites. No matter the beach occasion, they're the perfect base to start any outfit. Not to mention the perfect, almost white, introduction to lighter shades of jeans most guys are scared to sport. I paired them up with some not so basic slip-ons from Vince Camuto... who doesn't love a good tassel?! 😁

While this trip was short-lived, it's only the first beach escape of many. I'll be heading South - South Beach to be exact - for a fun project with the W South Beach tomorrow so make sure you're following along over on Instagram and the Snap for all the latest!

Beat the Heat Style

Damn, I forgot how hot it was in Miami! I've been here this week visiting some properties and have been sweating like crazy, so I'm thankful for the ocean breeze and poolside, piña coladas! It's just about impossible to beat the heat while visiting any tropical location but not completely... I'm always an advocate for linen when traveling to beach destinations. The lightweight goods breathe so easily and are right on trend with any beachside parties.

Casual doesn't have to be completely dressed down though. Piling on some quality accessories easily helps to transform a laid-back outfit into a night out on the town. My friends over at the W South Beach gifted me these insanely cool shades when I checked into the property. They are a collaboration that the Miami location did with Garrett Leight California Opticals and are easily my new favorite specs. The showstopper is this Omega Seamaster timepiece though. Without a doubt a huge investment but will easily transform your style into a more refined look.

I'm just about to head back to NYC, but I have a couple huge announcements coming up including one HUGE campaign I'm doing shortly after men's week in July... Stay tuned!

There's nothing better than getting full stride into summer... iced coffee breaks, playing hooky from work, and getting into some casual, warmer day trends. You can never go wrong with some nautical stripes during the spring and summer so I've always made sure to stay stocked in the season's go-to trend. No matter what the occasion, it's basically impossible to avoid the trend especially during this holiday weekend. It's the best way to get into the patriotic moods.

I'll be sticking around the city this holiday weekend which I'm actually excited about because NYC is basically deserted for the 4th of July... except for the crowds that flock to see the fireworks. I'll be chillin park-side [most like with an iced coffee in hand] and getting some much needed rest before the craziness that is Men's Fashion Week starts. I'll be recapping all of my favorite shows, parties, and moments during the busy week so make sure to check back for that later.

Striped Style Syndrome

It's always hard to get off holiday mode and straight back into work... Especially after a Fourth of July extended weekend. Even though I've been on the struggle bus since getting back to NYC yesterday, I'm in full preparation mode for Men's Fashion Week kicking off on Monday. Men's week has been getting bigger and bigger every season, so I'm pumped to see what's happening this season. I'll of course be highlighting all of my favorite moments live on Instagram - @trendstyled - and some daily recaps on here.

Until then, it's back to business as usual. I've been pulling clothes for Fashion Week since getting back into the city but I couldn't help but style in this French Connection shirt I originally got for the shows. Maybe I'm still channeling the stars and stripes but I can't help but love this shirt that's perfect for the season. Styling the shirt is easy though... I had a few meetings so I styled it up a bit with some dressier pants and cool Hydrogen-1 brogues that I got into during the fall, but I'll definitely be dressing it down into some shorts for some rooftop cocktails later tonight. You gotta beat the heat somehow!

Grooming on the Go

No matter if you're getting into a new season's grooming routine, trying to refresh your current routine, or trying to figure out a way to stay on point while traveling, grooming is the one style constant we must all maintain. For me, traveling is definitely the hardest time for me to stay in routine, so I was super excited to partner with Neutrogena Men® to get me through my current travels. If you've been following along on Instagram [@trendstyled], then you may have caught some of my latest travels roadtrippin cross-country from NYC to LA.

While I love traveling, the hardest part is packing all my grooming goods in one bag to get me through my trip. The trick... Take the necessities and forget all the fluff. A good face wash is the base to the start and end of every day. Especially while traveling through warmer climates, I am hooked to cleansers that keep me feeling and looking fresh. Specifically designed for men, this Neutrogena Men® Invigorating Face Wash not only gets the clean but is also leaves your skin feeling refreshed. It's pretty amazing to wake up to and to cool down with... Not to mention, improves your skin's overall healthy look. If you want an even deeper cleanse, go for the Razor Defense® Face Scrub. It not only gently exfoliates your skin, it also helps to get a closer, cleaner shave. It's that just that extra

While a good wash is a no brainer, most of us guys forget about the moisturizer and more importantly the sunscreen. Thankfully, Neutrogena Men® makes it easy with the Triple Protect Face Lotion with SPF 20... the one-two punch our cleansing routine should always end with. Not only does it protect your face from the elements, but it also fights dryness and combats the signs of aging. Who doesn't want to look younger, longer?!

I'll continue to put the Neutrogena Men® gear to the test as I travel West to Los Angeles. What better way to really put the products to the test than hitting multiple hot weather climates and testing it out. No matter if you're traveling or not, summer-time is one of the most important seasons to keep up with that grooming routine. Cleanse, exfoliate, protect and repeat!

Dapper Down

Over the next few days I'll be looking back at my New York Fashion Week: Men's OOTD. As hot as it was in NYC during the week of shows, presentations, and events, there was a collective mood of getting into the latest pre-fall pieces from some of the best menswear brands out there. I was definitely nervous about looking like an idiot when putting together outfits including blazers, leather jackets, and denim - it was in the mid-nineties after all - but luckily, I wasn't the only one sporting some of the trends we'll be seeing in the weeks to come after summer.

I definitely eased into the pre-fall looks and managed to keep cool while getting dressed for day one. This double-breasted blazer is a custom piece I helped design. A subtle windowpane pattern shows as the light catches it and is perfect for the season. Paired down with some of my favorite new Diesel jeans and some white sneakers and it's easily transformed into a younger take on the usually dapper style. I'm obviously not a full suit kinda guy so this look is definitely me! What do you think?!

If you've been following along on Instagram, then you've seen probably one of the most epic trips I've ever taken. One of my favorite parts of creating content is being able to travel to get cool, unique perspectives of different parts of the world. As much as I love seeing other countries, it was time I recapped some of my favorite domestic spots on an eight city, cross-country road trip and brought along some of my favorite brands along the way.

If you know a little about me, then you know I'm from the South, so I of course had to hit one of the cities I've always wanted to visit in my home state of Texas... Marfa! If you haven't heard of this tiny city, it's about six hours West of Austin and is home to some of the coolest art installations housed outside in the desert landscapes. While I enjoyed checking out all of the art, it was the local hangouts that caught my eye the most... Not to mention the local classic rides. When I saw this beautiful old-school Pontiac, I knew I had to take full advantage and capture some cool images for one of my favorite footwear brands.

Sperry is a brand I grew up wearing and knowing well from season to season. It was a brand that was consistent in my style and has not changed one bit. The only thing that has changed is the insane amounts of styles the brand carries. Being in Texas and all, I had to go for the most similar style that looked like denim... the Wahoo CVO Sneaker in Navy. These guys were my go-to while traveling the country but especially while trekking the desert terrain. Comfortable, flexible, and durable - what else does a guy need?! Check out the rest of my stops using #TSCrossCountry to see all the stops we made along the way!

As promised, I'm recapping another New York Fashion Week: Men's outfit. As hot as it was during those four days, I managed to not completely sweat through every look while trekking from show to show. I did however, manage to go a bit more casual for this day of shows. With small upgrades in your accessories, though, a casual look can easily transition for a wide range of events.

I always invest in great pieces that help to transform my daily looks. A killer pair of shoes, a backpack that can be used on the daily, and a beautiful timepiece that easily helps to dapper up a look and you're set for a season[s]. These - not so typical - brogues from Hydrogen-1 are some of my favorite kicks that I've held onto knowing that I'll wear them for a wide range of seasons and styles. Paired up with a spot on color combo of backpack from Timo Weiland and a timeless piece from Omega and my 'normcore' style was set for a day of fashion shows and events... not to mention, for a day of beating the heat!

New Hood, New Vibes

One of my favorite things about my new neighborhood [West Hollywood] is exploring all the architecture and design that's gone into building it. There's so much history in these buildings and I've really been feeling all the Spanish vibes that make up a good part of this hood. Maybe it's a trip I have coming up down South later this month or I'm just falling into the chill Cali vibes, but I've really come to love the laid back style of the West Coast.

No stranger to linen, it's one of those fabrics you get into while on a beach vacation or just in a calm space like California. The weather here is no joke. You wake up knowing the day is going to be beautiful so you're always dressed for a leisurely day no matter your mood. This linen shirt from one of my new summer faves, Frank and Eileen, has been traveling with me all season. From beach vacations to days exploring neighborhoods, I love the linen goodness. Paired down with some distressed denim from Tommy Hilfiger and some killer suede slip-ons and it's as if I'm heading to dinner in some foreign beach town... orrrr maybe just walking to Whole Foods to get a pre-made sushi roll.

Sadly, summer is coming to a close and the chill is starting to creep into the West Coast as the sun sets, but I can't be more excited for the fall layers. With new seasons, come new trends and I'm deep into the suede layers that will for sure be seen all season long. It's just about the perfect piece to finish any style and any fall day.

I've teamed up with my friends at American Eagle Outfitters to show how I'm getting into the suede trend with something that just launched for fall. This outerwear piece is the perfect transition into the trend and the weather. With just enough weight to bring on the warmth, it'll have me covered all season long.
